Dear House,
Why do you hurt me when I show you nothing but love? Was it something I said or did that made you want to break my heart into thousands of tiny pieces?
Don't get me wrong, House, you're still the one for me. I still pop you in the DVD player from time to time, wait for new shows with bated breath, and brag about you to all my friends. But House, what have you done for me? You leave me sitting here all summer, musing on the pain and futility of life and trying to stop crying tears of sympathy. That's harsh, even for you.
I guess it's not only your fault. I mean, there was a director, right?, and writers. Oh, and those ridiculously talented actors. And of course someone had to pick out those songs, a sort of soundtrack to the devastation. (I mean, it was a beautiful devastation, which I'm sure I'll appreciate more when I don't want to crawl into bed for the rest of my life.)
Anyway, I didn't write this to make you feel bad. I'm still madly in love with you, and can't wait to see you again in the fall. Just lay off my heart a little when that day comes, okay?
Love,
Alex

Taken over Christmas:
It's a groovy shirt, and the proceeds go to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Check it!Be honest: How many hour of television do you watch each week?
Let's see...a typical week includes
- House - 1 hour
- Law & Order - 1 hour
- Intervention - 1 hour
- Scrubs reruns - between 2 and 4 hours a week*
After that, sometimes I watch reruns of ER or What Not To Wear as I get ready for class, and if I'm home Friday night I'll usually watch Monk and Psych.
So I probably watch about 6-10 hours. Of course, sometimes if I'm bored I'll stumble across a Lifetime movie, or one of those weird medical shows, so if could be a bit more than that.
*The Scrubs reruns are more background, since I've seen them all like a million times. Viva Scrubs!
I miss being at home for Fat Tuesday for one reason, and one reason only: fashnachts.
In my house, faschnachts are deep fried, triangular pieces of dough that are then coated in sugar and eaten hot. Health-wise, they're probably the worst things in the world, but by golly do they taste good. It's a good thing they're only for Fat Tuesday, because otherwise I would already be dead of a heart attack!
So please, if you make some, eat one for me. :-)
In addition to it being Fat Tuesday, it is also Hughsday! I'm going to be excited all day, because it's the last episode until the strike is over.
Okay, so last night I went to bed at ten to one. I didn't fall asleep 'til closer to two. I wasn't worried about anything, I was just wired.
Maybe it was the small cup of tea I had at nine. Maybe it was the awesome book I've been reading*. Maybe it was the satisfaction of finding two lovely songs** on iTunes. Or maybe it was because House kicked butt last night.
Seriously you guys, it was so good. It felt more on than it has in awhile. The PoTW was insightful without being obnoxious or preachy, and it was lovely to see House care a little bit, to allow himself to be a little vulnerable. The humor was less in-your-face, and I laughed aloud quite a few times. 'Let's Get It On' will never not be funny for me. Wilson was rocking, and is dating Cutthroat!! Eep!
Anyway, that show always gives me a little high, and I can't wait to see it again tomorrow.
*The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield
**'New Soul' by Yael Naim and 'All My Days' by Alexi Murdoch
That stupid writer's strike better end, like, now so the hiatus won't be more than a month or so.
Tonight I really felt like "my show" was back. :-)
Warning: House spoilers!
It always takes me a few episodes to warm up to the new season, you know? Each year has its own feel and rhythm, and this year has been more hectic, what with all the new peeps. This episode was the first (to me) that felt comfortable, probably because we can finally get to know the newbies who are still around, instead of an entire roomful.
Speaking of the new peeps, am I alone in totally loving them? 13 is kind of annoying...scratch that, people's reactions to her are annoying. I don't care about her mysterious past or whatever. Cutthroat has really grown on me, as has Cole (the Mormon). The plastic surgeon is my fave, especially now that the old guy is gone. Miss you already, Ridiculously Old Fraud! I hope you can organize a poker night or something with Wilson and House. (How awesome would that be??)
Moving on to the old cast members...Foreman. Why? I don't want him back. He's annoying and really nothing special. Perhaps this whole "opposing House" thing will work out better than I think it will. I did enjoy Cuddy's smackdown, though. It's about time!
One last thought: this should've been the Halloween episode! The hallucinations were completely freaky, and when she was vomiting blood the patient looked just like a vampire! Craziness.
- What new shows are you going to watch this year?
- What shows do you currently watch?
- Name a show that was on when you were younger.
- How much tv do you usually watch?
- Show us something you bought because you saw it on tv.
1. None, I don't think. Pushing Daisies looks cute, but frankly I don't have to motivation to pick up another show. Maybe I'll watch it online or get my parents to tivo it, but probably not.
2. House, obviously. I enjoy other shows, but in reality that's the only show that I make sure to watch. The Office and Scrubs are my other "regulars", but I'm usually out of the room when they air. Thankfully my parents and brother watch them also, so I catch up on breaks. I usually watch ER just because it's on, and most of the time I manage to catch Project Runway, too.
3. I was just thinking about Wishbone today. Now that was a great show. For those who don't know what it is (was, I guess), Wishbone is the name of the main character, a jack russel terrier. Every episode Wishbone and his owner joe would go through some personal crisis that would vaguely mirror the plot of a classic novel. Interspersed with said personal crisis there would be scenes from said classic novel, with Wishbone as the lead, natch. It was a super show, but I have to say that it ruined the ending of a few novels for me in my later years, because I remembered the plot from the episode!
4. Not much. Most of the TV I watch is on DVD, really.
5. Can't think of anything right now, sorry.
